Fethiye region is a popular resort. Set on a wide bay, strewn with many islands.
The Beach and the Sovalye Island are real the destinations for those who like to enjoy the beautiful sea. Belcegiz Bay is also good for such a visit and provides natural mountain scenery. The bay forms the dreamlike Belcegiz - Ölüdeniz (Blue Lagoon) known as "a paradise that God granted to Earth", a fine place with 3 kms of natural beach and crystal blue waters in enchanting surroundings.
Belcegiz Beach is ideal for picnicking try the Kidiril Park, for sightseeing the Gemiler Islands with their Byzantine ruins among the pine trees are recommenced. At Koturumsu, a heaven like beauty awaits you, where you may reach only by boat. There are waterfalls flowing across valleys where thousands of butterflies, exhibiting tremendous shades of colors, fly amongst the pine forest bordering on the lovely beach.
Some of the other natural attractions are Katranci Bay, Gunluk (Kusuk Kargi) Bay, Oyuktepe, Göcek with its harbor and marina. Lately, parachuting from Baba mountain became one of the most popular sports and it gives magnificent views for people flying over this great beach lagoon.
Çalis Beach
The beach is located 200m from the apartment. The beach is partly sand and partly pebble and stretches for many miles. Again, there are restaurants, bars and shops to occupy you while the children can be entertained in the Aqua Park situated nearby.
This beach is arguably the most photographed beach in the world. Otherwise known as The Blue Lagoon because it is an area of outstanding beauty. It is a popular tourist destination and has numerous facilities such as restaurants, shops, bars and the beach has shower, toilet and changing areas. The beach is free but the lagoon charges a very small entrance fee.
The Harbour at Fethiye
Fethiye is a lively bustling town with shops, bazaars and plenty of nightlife if required and is 4 miles from the apartment. The bay provides a natural port and is an important stop for all kinds of boats. Many of the restaurants serve foods to suit all palettes and they are excellent value. From Fethiye you can explore the region, simply by taking a Dolmus (minibus) from the town centre.
Kayakoy Village
This deserted Greek settlement was built in the 14th century on the ancient site of Karmillassos which was destroyed by earthquake. The village was abandoned after the Turkish and Greek governments signed a 'population exchange' agreement in 1922. The Greek population was exchanged with the Turkish population residing in Western Thrace. Worth a visit.
Lycian Rock Tombs
4th century B.C. monuments from the Lycian period within Fethiye draw many visitors. These tombs are excavated into natural rock, which become a symbol of the city. Fethiye has its own tombs but these are a picture of the tombs at Dalyan, which can be seen if you take the boat trip to Dalyan. Amyntas, which is considered by many as the most beautiful and most magnificent tomb can be reached from Fethiye by a stairway off the harbour
Dalyan - Mud Baths
Dalyan has many therapeutic hot springs. The waters which contain radioactive elements and sulphur are believed to cure rheumatism, skin, liver, spleen and bowel complaints, as well as being beneficial for nervous and digestive disorders. The Sultaniye Thermal Bath which is famous in Turkey, the water is 40 degrees Centigrade. The mud baths are also said to remedy rheumatism as well as cleanse and beautify the skin. Once you have covered yourself in the mud, wait for a few minutes to dry it. You then clean yourself in the sulphur pool. Mud bath is also at a temperature of 40 degrees. A must for a day trip
Saklikent
Located a short drive from Patara, Tlos, Pinara, Xanthos and Letoon; Saklikent Gorge is a 18km canyon which was formed by the sliding of the base plates and the erosion of the water. You can walk thru the natural style bridge and walk in the canyon and even have a mud bath; or if you are more adventurous you can hike further upstream in the ice cold waters of the canyon.
Saklikent is situated near Toros, between Fethiye and Kas situated east of Esençay Valley, Villagers living in this region discovered Saklikent almost 20 years ago. Saklikent Gorge ("Hidden Valley") is the longest and deepest gorge in Turkey - 18 km long and so steep and narrow that the sun does not penetrate the water, leaving it deliciously icy-cold in the summer. Once inside, water-sculpted limestone canyon walls soar above you. Saklikent is a Canyon which is unbelievably beatiful, mystic and fascinating. You can walk one kilometer through water to reach Saklikent.
A total of 16 caves have been discovered in the rocks, whereas prehistoric man encountered this place and used it for shelter.
